It's not that I take pills often - in fact, I haven't taken any Tylenol, Advil or Aleve in probably a year or so. I do agree, however, that in our society, everyone turns to the quick answer, which for them, is drugs. They pop pills, and eventually, those pills end up having negative side effects to their lives and end up hurting them more than they are potentially helping them.Armen Karaoghlanianhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02894573932699044978noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5733946128147346576.post-28362523199932713502012-04-11T23:20:17.143-07:002012-04-11T23:20:17.143-07:00I agree with thewomaninthemiddle. It is too deeply...I agree with thewomaninthemiddle. It is too deeply rooted in our culture that the solution to all of medical problems is popping a pill. Guess what, the pills don't actually solve the root cause of whatever the individual is trying to fix. Not only that but pills like Adderall usually cause other problems while "helping" something else. A lot of people to do various medications and we are very fortunate that we have these things available to us, however, people have become way too dependent on them. I read an article about how women these days are using Advil as just a little daily "pick-me-up" to feel happier and don't think about the negative effects of taking even Advil for basically no reason has on them. I'm someone who is generally against using any pharmaceuticals unless, God forbid, I get some horrific disease. In my family if your head hurts, you sleep it off. Your stomach hurts? Drink some hot tea and I can honestly see how we're much better off in our health for it. Just like in all other parts of life people need to fight for themselves and stop relying on various things unless absolutely necessary and that goes for all aspects of life. Dependence on anything is no good.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5733946128147346576.post-72333560361093854392012-04-04T16:39:00.627-07:002012-04-04T16:39:00.627-07:00I was diagnosed with ADD as a sophomore in high sc...I was diagnosed with ADD as a sophomore in high school. I was put through rigorous testing by a psychiatrist (28 hours of testing) to determine whether or not I required medication. I was prescribed Adderall. Since I started taking Addy, I have found my productivity increased, I was reading a lot more, I would work out harder, I would be more conscious of what I was eating, and my grades increased significantly. I thank god for this drug because it has allowed to work up to my potential. However I am now at a point where I have become reliant on the drug. Addicted, although mentally (vs. physically) dependent, I see how distracted and distant I am when I'm off and I crave it. Recently, with the shortage, getting access to these medications has become more difficult and I have had more days without Addy, leaving me behind. Stop abusing this drug so I can study more!FlackAttack73https://www.blogger.com/profile/01332188988763344768noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5733946128147346576.post-76046103378862137302012-03-27T18:44:14.105-07:002012-03-27T18:44:14.105-07:00I agree with the comment above. The problem exists...I agree with the comment above. The problem exists in the mentality that people think their lives are bettered by constantly being high on Ritalin than trusting that their body is capable of amazing things without the help of pharmaceuticals. It seems that people are not willing enough to help themselves by creating good habits in terms of physical health, mental health, spiritual health and believe they can quicken the process with synthetic drugs. The rampant use of ADHD medicine also have implications in creativity. In my limited knowledge, ADHD medicine reduces creativity and draws a persons focus to one thing. <br />It comes down to a question of what we value as a culture. Currently, higher education has taught us to value high productivity, overcommitment and work quality that is sufficient. Our culture promotes striving for the top of the heap on a scale that pits everyone against everyone. Everyone wants to be the best at everything and its impossible. I'm afraid that many people don't even take the time to see what really interests them and instead strike out on a path that has been beaten down by million people before them. For the people who don't need ADHD medicine, a realignment of values is in order.JSVhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00821734218382752501noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5733946128147346576.post-10411863006788436942012-03-27T17:26:58.474-07:002012-03-27T17:26:58.474-07:00I believe this issue is deeply routed in American ...I believe this issue is deeply routed in American culture. Whether its a headache, back pain, broken foot, etc... the answer is popping a pill. The same goes for mental health: anxiety, depression, ADHD... there is pills for those problems too. Why is it that people in our country feel like a pill can solve anything? I think we are only going to see this thought process grow as Gen Y - who wants everything and they want it NOW - ages.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
